The main task Marlon carried out was to help redesign our marketing materials using In Design. Marlon was able to work on his own initiative and quickly grasped the concepts required, working on circular economy design projects and we are still using some of the work Marlon created including Icons and Posters.

Marlon’s volunteering with Blind Veterans UK has consisted of befriending members in the lounge areas of the Llandudno Centre. This involves engaging members in conversation and or activities suitable for that individual. This role requires volunteers to be able to chat with members on a wide a variety of subjects, bringing groups of members together and making sure they are involved with the activity in a positive way.
Marlon has shown himself to be a caring individual, who values the feelings of others whilst maintaining a professional relationship with both members and staff. During his volunteering I saw Marlon’s confidence grow, along with his ability for generating flowing conversation with individuals who sometimes presented with difficulties in this area themselves. He has a calming nature and is able to work well within a team whilst showing himself to be capable of independently adjusting to current situations as needed. He will ask for advice when he feels it prudent and report concerns in a discreet and professional manner.
As a volunteer Marlon proved himself to be committed to the ethos of Blind Veterans UK. His visits to the centre in Llandudno consistently proved to be a genuinely special time for the membership who enjoyed his conversation and wit. His communication with me was always of a high standard, keeping me informed of his availability and reporting to me when on shift. I have no hesitation recommending Marlon to prospective employers and am happy to be contacted should you wish.
